Celebrating 30 Years Since The Accident That Changed My Life Forever [1/30]

Stacey Copas accident Resilience Virtual Speaker 30 year anniversary

Today I celebrate the 30th anniversary of the accident that left me a quadriplegic and needing a wheelchair for the rest of my life.

For many years afterwards I hated life and hated myself, and at my lowest points didn’t want to be here at all.

Fast forward to the 30th year and I have so much love for life and for myself.

I’m incredibly grateful for the people in my life who believed in me before I believed in myself, and who have enabled me to extract the incredible value in the adversity I’ve experienced and to share it in a way that helps those struggling with change, adversity and uncertainty to embrace and find the opportunities in it.

To help celebrate this milestone I’m going to be sharing reflections of my journey for the next 30 days.

I see this as a powerful way to honour my 12 year old self, a message to her and a message to those who are having a tough time in their lives and struggling to find a way out of it.

A message that we can grow through the challenges not just go through them.

A message that when nothing is certain anything is possible.

The events of 2020 have meant these messages are needed more than ever.

I’d love your help to do this.

All of my personal photo albums are in storage so please share with me any photos, memories or reflections you have of how we’ve connected and the impact I’ve had on you.

I want to share not only reflections of my own, I’d love to share reflections from the perspective of others.

This year I’ve had to dig deep into my own resilience as my business got smashed by lockdowns and travel bans.

I had to embrace being a Virtual Keynote Speaker. I hated it but by resisting it I was being selfish when I was needed the most.

Through the challenges emerged my Rituals For Resilience.

Through the challenges emerged a growing coaching practice.

Through the challenges emerged a greater global audience and I loved being able to speak with audiences in US, Canada, South Africa and Europe without getting on a plane.

Through the challenges emerged more powerful relationships as I prioritised them for the first time in my life.

Looking ahead into the coming year, I’m excited to be speaking with more international audiences, I’m excited to launch my podcast (finally!), I’m excited to help others develop their Rituals For Resilience, I’m excited to be moving house, and I’m excited for the personal and professional growth I’ll experience to help the growth of others.

This year has deepened the moral responsibility I feel to share my story and what I’ve learned, openly and authentically, in order to improve the lives of those struggling with the seemingly overwhelming uncertainty and change in business and life.

My theme for this year was Expansion and I’ve certainly experienced that in many ways and helped others to expand too.

The theme for the year ahead that I’m embracing is Love. Love in all its forms.

With all the fear, division and intolerance in the world right now love is needed more than ever.

Thank you for being part of this journey over the past 30 years, I couldn’t have done this alone and I’m looking forward to sharing the journey ahead with you too. The best is yet to come!

Be your best,

Stacey
